Our 4 ply weight blend of 60% soft grey alpaca, 25% Blue Faced Leicester and 15% Teeswater fleece for super soft and super cosy socks and sumptuous shawls. The yarn has been spun at the Border Mill in the Scottish Borders.
The combination of alpaca and Blue Faced Leicester means the yarn is soft enough to wear next to skin, while being super strong. There are at least 420m in a 100g skein. So far, you will see we have used it for socks on 2.25mm needles (A Nice Ribbed Sock by Glenna C). We achieved 32 stitches and 38 rows on 2.25mm needles. You can see more photographs of these projects on our Instagram pages. This is a tightly spun, fine semi-worsted spun yarn. The combination of the black and white fleeces have created a very gentle, warm marled grey shade.
It is slightly finer than our alpaca/BFL blend (Alpaca and Blue Faced Leicester 4ply) and is a more rustic yarn.
The yarn should be hand washed carefully in warm, but not hot, water
